Where he got all his smarts.

Louis did not stand out or have impressive results in school. He was a very normal down to earth kid. His earliest record of education was at Arbois university where he took up an interest in art. In order to follow his dream in art he moved to Paris, but returned to Arbois shortly after because of a bad experience. In 1840 he graduated from Arbois with a philology degree. He went to Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris where he graduated in1847 specializing in chemistery and physics.
